Nutritional information on Finola® Hempseed Oil

Linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid are the two essential fatty acids (EFAs), which make up 75% of Finola® oil. As the name implies; these two fatty acids are essential to human health, and must be obtained through the diet. Medical studies have shown that consumption of these two highly unsaturated fatty acids can have beneficial effects on many chronic and degenerative health conditions. In addition, Finola® oil also contains over 4% GLA (gamma-linolenic acid; omega-6) and about 2% SDA (stearidonic acid; omega-3), which are both rare and biochemically valuable fatty acids. Both GLA and SDA are natural biological metabolites of the two EFAs, which serve as precursors to other important metabolites. Together, the total amount of omega-3 and omega-6 is over 80% in Finola® oil. Together, the total content of omega-3, -6 and -9 in Finola® oil is over 90%. No other industrial vegetable oil can make that claim.

Caution! Highly unsaturated vegetable oils are denatured by heating above 150 oC, which can result in the production of unhealthy trans-fatty acids and peroxides. These chemical reactions are dependent on both time and temperature, and eventually occurs with all unsaturated vegetable oils. In other words, the longer one cooks with Finola® oil, and the higher the temperature, the more peroxides and trans-fatty acids will be formed. This is why we advise you to not cook with Finola® oil at high temperatures for long periods of time.
